Ron and others,

The Drobo is apparently really hassle free, what about data backups at the stations? Look at the review below. >From a post in another forum I go the hint about the review. The Linux Action Show review (minute 18:42 - 34:30 of the stream) ...

I just heard about the Drobo data storage system by Data Robotic which I haven't heard of before. Does anybody know more about it? Ron, this might be an option for your radio station?
Here some of the descriptions I have found:

It should run under Windows, Mac, Linux (Linux in beta). There are versions with USB 2.0 and Firewire 800 and in combination with droboshare it is a network storage. It has several RAID options built in and does take various SATA I or SATA II hard disk drives of various sizes, even a combination of different sizes! From what I understand it is extendable/expandable as you go. Just push in a new drive and it seems to re-configures itself etc. always with the best data safety options. Well, I heard a very enthusiastic podcast too :-) You may want to check for their website.

And here you can simulate various storage options and combinations

Any more objective infos on this.

Hello Thomas and everyone else.
Thanks for that info. I watched the video and heard a few others too, like LUG Radio from UK.... a bit on the crude side, but entertaining and very informative. Will be travelling to the computer market this Saturday in Canberra as I need to replace some stuff and buy some more HD's, and then on to Sydney for my son's 40th., but will be back following Friday or Saturday. I will be showing the new eeepc 901 and the Qnap server and maybe my Ubuntu desktop if I can get organised in time.
Regards to all
Ron
PS: If you get this Livio, you might want to mention that everyone is welcome to our informal meetings at the 2MIA Studios, the last Sunday of each month at 2:00pm
