Dear Volunteers - please read all of the long message fully
On Wednesday evening the board voted for a partial re-opening of GRCO for
viewing on Saturday evenings in October. The dates are October 16, October
23 and October 30. Time will be sunset until 9:30. There are some
requirements:
Operators must be vaccinated. Most of you are. The board wanted to minimize
possible infection, Outbeak cases are possible, but we hope to improve our
odds against disease.
Social Distancing will be maintained. We will place glow in the dark tape
along the sidewalk to promote separation of visiting groups.
Masks are required inside the observatory. This includes both visitors and
staff. Masks will be provided as needed. Masks outside are optional, but
encouraged.
Limit of 4 viewers inside the observatory. We will divide larger groups and
work to limit time inside a small space.
Regular cleaning will occur. We have an automated touchless hand sanitizer.
We have alcohol wipes and latex gloves as needed.
The Board will meet again on November 1 to review how well things go, and
decide upon expansion after this test.
Thank you for your participation in the recent survey. Your responses were
reviewed by the board and helpful in decision making. I realize that some of
you will disagree with this decision or rules. This is a volunteer activity
that should be fun. I do not want you to feel any pressure or negativity as
a volunteer. The rules were adopted by the board because they are concerned
about the safety and health of you and our visitors. We love you and
appreciate your service.
Please send your availability for Saturday, October 16,23 or 30. If you have
comments, or want to discuss anything PLEASE CALL OR EMAIL ME PERSONALLY. I
support everyone's rights and opinions, but the board is legally and
ethically responsible for the safe operation of the observatory and their
guidelines will be followed.
Thanks again, as always
