[gptalk] Links being deleted at random

We're having an intermittent problem with GPO links disappearing, sometimes
within seconds of being created. The link can be re-created so we don't believe
it's a case of it being there in reality but not visible, or GPMC would whine
that the link already exists.
It's also not the case that links beneath a particular node disappear: it can
be anywhere in the tree.
