Robert,

To determine the total distance using 4.0:

Press R for Route Commands List
Press A for route announcement commands
Press D for Total Route distance

The nice thing about the 4.0 is the restructuring of many list, including
the route command list. Before if you were to press R and forgot a command,
you will be presented with a list of commands in no such order. Now, if you
press R you will be presented with a real list that you can arrow through
and select items from, and after each command, it shows you the keystroke of
achieving the command and it is now possible to just press enter to issue
the command. The shortcut for getting the total route distance is R A D. the
SPACE with R command that you mention has always been meant to repeat the
last message even in 3.5.

Hope this helps.

Kevin
