Hi All, I have some information on a couple waterproof clear sleeves, which all the PM incarnations, older generation and Omni, could be slid into to protect the hardware from drizzle, rain, and hurricanes. These sleeves would also be useful for other outdoor sports such as kayaking, canoeing, and camping. The sleeves could also be used with all kinds of other adaptive technology and mainstream products, you would just need to match the sleeve dimensions against the dimensions of the product you want to put into the sleeve. The site has sleeves of all sizes for anything you can think of. Below are links which take you directly to the pages on the Aquapac web site to see the sleeves that would work with the PM, but these sleeves would work with other notetakers as well. These links go to the specific product pages Karen mentions in her reply email. The company is based out of the UK, so I have provided links to the US site first and UK site second. Hurricanes would be a real challenge for StreetTalk VIP, because it would constantly be recalculating the route as the wind blew you out to sea. You would probably want to use the breadcrumb route creation feature so you could drift back to shore eventually. Tornados would be a totally different story for StreetTalk VIP, I think all you could do in that case is check attitude as you spun and carried away to your final resting place inside a tree trunk next to a piece of straw, or in the midst of mangled steel wreckage, cheap wood paneling, bean bag chairs, and black light posters of KISS from a pre 1980 trainer park. I had based my recommendation on smaller units I saw. I have checked the measurements against the cases we have and the two smallest PAC Mate units would fit our multipurpose Large Whanganui case (664) however if you are going to put them in another case then the Jumbo Whanganui (674) would be recommended which would also be big enough to fit all the other PAC Mate models. This case measures 12.6inches in height and has a horizontal circumference measurement of 25.6inches around the case body. It is made with loops on the clamp and is carried by a shoulder strap attached to the loop. It is best if you view this case on our website at www.aquapac.net <http://www.aquapac.net/> under the menu link 'Multipurpose Cases'. The cases are made with soft flexible TPU plastic material that would allow you to access the buttons through the case. Since you mentioned that the unit would be put in a leather case I am not sure how that would allow you to access the buttons. The case is actually closed with a waterproof clamp to keep the contents dry. You should not therefore need the leather case and you should be able to access the buttons through the waterproof case. Have a look and you can decide. We have not really had a request of this case for this use before but it would be good if you find it useful for this purpose. Below I have pasted the measurements for the six model configurations of the Pac Mate Omni, which is offered with a notebook keyboard or a Braille keyboard. Then there are two Braille displays which are offered, a 20 cell unit, and a 40 cell unit. The PDA and the Braille displays are modular, so you can have any one of six different configurations depending on the hardware you decide to go with. As you can see below, the BX400 is the smallest of the units offered, and the QX440 is the largest of the units offered. Then once the unit goes into the leather case, which most of us do have, you can probably add a good 2 inches in all directions beyond the size of the PDA. Finally, when I and other GPS users are out walking, we will have the Pac Mate Omni hanging from a shoulder strap either straight down off the shoulder or have the strap across our bodies. So whatever waterproof enclosure is used, it will need to have some sort of hooks, loops, or something for the shoulder strap to attach to. By the way, how flexible is the clear vinyl of the pack? Somehow the GPS user needs to access the keyboards to manipulate the GPS software. Is this possible with the packs your company offers. Let me know what you think, and what my possible options might be. This case is supplied with a neckcord attached to the eyehole on the clamp seal that allows you to wear it around your neck. This case is on our website at www.aquapac.net where you can also purchase it. I use a GPS program for the blind to get around on foot, but the problem with living in Washington State, is all the rain. I need a waterproof clear sleeve, which the PDA can slide into and allow me to access the laptop keyboard from to control the software on the PDA. So far, I have had no luck on the web finding anything which will work. It needs to have some sort of eye holes or loops for a shoulder strap, and flexable enough through the clear vinyl to work with the keyboard. Is there such an thing out there? It is frustrating to have a product which helps with getting around, but I can't use it because of the rain or constant drizzle. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Gene ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
