ANNUAL SUNSHINE WEEK EVENT

The Office of Privacy and Open Government (OPOG) and the Census Bureau’s Policy
Coordination Office will host an Annual Sunshine Week Event on March 13, 2024,
between 9:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Opening Remarks will be provided by Deputy Secretary, Don Graves. The Keynote
Speaker is Robert L. Santos, Director, Census Bureau. Topics will include:
Open Government: A Virtual Chat, How the Census Bureau Harnesses AI, DEIA
Storytelling through Dashboards: A Case Study in Creating Greater Workforce
Data Transparency, FOIA Exemption 3, and Open Data in the Age of AI.

About the Annual Sunshine Week Event

Sunshine Week occurs each year in mid-March, coinciding with James Madison's
birthday and National Freedom of Information Day. It is a national initiative
to promote a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of
information. This year’s event—titled, “The Power of Open Government,”—draws
attention to how access to information and data expands the reach of open
government, allowing for transparency, participation, and collaboration across
the sectors in meaningful ways.
