Subject: [goodfeel] More Complete Lime Score equals Better Braille from GoodFeel

Whether you are preparing Lime notation files for viewing with the Lime Lighter
features or for automatic transcription to braille with GOODFEEL, we hope that
this brief summary of tips for optimizing your Lime file will be helpful.
Here are a few simple things that you can do to significantly improve the
usability of the score.
If you are creating Lime files for display with the Lime Lighter features, the
end user will have a better reading experience. And if you are going to use
GOODFEEL to transcribe your Lime file to the equivalent braile music, you are
much less likely to see the check box that says
"Braille despite critical errors"
In the Report dialog after you launch GOODFEEL from Lime's File menu. It is
rarely a good idea to simply check that box and process the transcription.
Use the following items as your checklist in your standard procedure for
completing preparation of the Lime score.
Enter a Title
Move to first note or rest of piece.
Annotation menu | Text Assistant | Title
Enter title text and click OK
Note that you can enter composer information and a number of other types of
annotations in a similar way.
Re-categorize Tempo Text
Tempo text like "Vivo", "Swing", and "Medium Rock" should be entered into Lime
as annotations of type "Tempo." If this kind of text is categorized in Lime as
type "Other" or any other type of annotation, change it to a tempo annotation
and the braille score will look much better.
Select the annotation text. I use ALT+LEFT ARROW or ALT+RIGHT ARROW to select.
Then open the Annotation menu | Text
If "Tempo" category is not checked, scroll down the list of categories until
you highlight "Tempo" and click OK.
Start Bar Numbers at 0 for Anacrusis (pick-up) Bar
Pick-up measures are incomplete bars that begin a piece of music that contain
fewer beats than specified in the time signature. For example, in 4-4 time,
each bar should have 4 beats.
If the score you have imported begins with a pick-up or anacrusis, Lime may
have incorrectly numbered the first bar as bar 1. To change it to be bar 0,
use File menu | Options for Piece | Start Bar Numbers at
Enter a 0 and click OK button.
To insert a new pick-up bar into any Lime score, use Lime's Insert Measures
dialog. Choose Insert Measures under the Page menu or press the CONTROL+I
shortcut.
Rename Part
Move to first note or rest of piece.
Voice menu | Parts and Voices
If the part name is anything like "UnnamedPart" or "MusicXML part", click
Rename button or type ALT+R
Enter a traditional instrument name such as
Flute
or
Piano
And click OK.
Close Parts and Voices dialog.
Add a Double Bar at End
Click on last note or rest of the piece.
Symbol menu | Bar Line...
Insert bar line "at end of system
From the list of types of bar lines, choose
Thick ending double bar line
