Hi James!

Where do you find MusicXML files?

I have Musescore on my system, because I was trying it before I thought seriously about trying the Goodfeel suite. When I open the "import pdf" dialog, it wants me to log onto the web site with my email address and password. I always stopped then, so I've never imported a pdf. I didn't know what would happen after I logged in.

Hi David,
Thanks from me for these instructions. In my time using Goodfeel, I have never thought to use that method of opening a temp file but it does save a step or two. Just shows how we get into habits.
Actually I hardly ever scan music now having long since given up on it as a way of getting correct music, or music as correct as possible. I prefer to import MusicXML files now and have also started to use the PDF import feature of Musescore which seems to work quite well. One of the problems is that most music printed commercially is bigger than A4 so unless you have a larger scanner, it will invariably cut off part of the music.

Cheers, James

Hi Debby,

The procedure I have always used to bring a scanned music file into Lime is not to save it as Music XML at all, but to use the menu choice to save and open a niff file. When After you've scanned your music and "read it in with alt-r r, go to the files menu and to the choice for the niff submenu. Right arrow to get into this niff submenu. The best thing to do is not to use the first or second option to save the niff file, but to go to the third, which is to save a temporary file and then open it. The choice actually reads "save and open temp file." This will automatically bring up Lime, where the file will be already loaded. The quick way to do all that is with the sequence, alt-f, f, f.
The full steps for scanning a file are given as the first answer in Dancing Dots' GOODFEEK FAQ, which is at
http://dancingdots.com/main/gffaq.htm
This FAQ has a lot of information that could be helpful to you as you need it.

It will be good to see what Dancing Dots finds out about the Music XML file you created, but unless the recommended procedure has changed, I think you'll fine the "save and open temp file" option to be the most convenient.
