Please forward the information below to deserving underrepresented high
school sophomores who have an interest in pursuing engineering.

Dr. Bevlee Watford, Director of the VA Tech's Center for the Enhancement
of Engineering Diversity (CEED), is sponsoring a recruitment bus trip to
the VA Tech Spring Football Game and Tailgate Party, to be held in
Blacksburg, VA on Saturday, April 25, 2009. The bus trip is FREE, and it
is intended for underrepresented High School Sophomores who have a
demonstrated interest in pursuing engineering.

The selection process will be competitive (i.e., grades, test scores,
and course selection are determining factors on the application). The
Early Decision application deadline is March 20, 2009. The Regular
Decision application deadline is March 27, 2009. Don't wait to submit
your application, as the demand for this trip is expected to be huge.

Note: This trip will be the first of three trips to the VA Tech campus
for those students selected to attend (trips to the 2009 Fall Admissions
Open House and the Spring 2010 Engineering Open House are also planned).

Please forward this announcement through your distribution channels to
ensure that it goes to targeted students in the Tidewater/Hampton Roads
and Richmond areas.

Thank you for your support of this effort.

The College of Engineering at Virginia Tech is embarking on a
long term plan to increase the numbers of African American, Hispanic,
American Indian and women students admitted to and enrolling in our
undergraduate degree programs. We believe that increased diversity of
our College will enhance the educational experience of all students.
Therefore, we are requesting your assistance in distributing information
about the 2009 Spring Fling Event to interested students.

We are seeking sophomore students with an interest in
engineering to travel to Virginia Tech on Saturday April 25th to attend
a tailgate party and the Virginia Tech Spring Football Game. We are
providing travel arrangements from three locations; the Northern
Virginia Region, the Tidewater area, and the Richmond area. It will be
an exciting day, filled with campus tours, activities as well as the
opportunity to meet and mingle with College of Engineering students,
faculty, and staff. Not to forget excellent accommodations for
attending the spring football game!

Attached is the flyer describing this event and the application
materials as this is a competitive process with a limited number of
students being accepted. I ask for your assistance in identifying
students and encouraging them to apply. Please note the deadlines:
Early Decision - March 20; Regular Decision - March 27.
