Veterans who were on active duty and completed degree requirement within the last 6 years of the announcement date may be considered JOB SUMMARY: Any individual who completed his or her educational requirements between December 27, 2010 (the date E.O. 13562 was signed, which established the Pathways Program) and July 10, 2012 (the effective date of the final Pathways Program regulation) will have 2 years from the effective date of the regulation to apply to the Recent Graduate Program. DUTIES: Performs a variety of duties designed to develop knowledge and skill in applying historical methodology. Writes and prepares portions of periodic histories and special historical studies of unit assigned and its programs. Coordinates with chief historian in choosing topics for these studies. Prepares in draft form an assigned portion or subject matter of the unit periodic history. Gathers assigned information by researching historical records, organizational files, and a variety of reference material. When encountering incomplete or misleading data, the incumbent determines the relative importance of the facts and seeks guidance from experienced historians as deemed necessary. Ensures narratives are complete, accurate, and logical account of events, and that it goes beneath the surface to analyze problems that arose, solutions that were adopted, and decisions that were made. Answers requests for historical information. Does so either independently, under close supervision, or as a member of a research team designated by the chief historian. Adequate and timely answers require historical knowledge of the U.S. Air Force and its programs, archival resources available at unit of assignment, and of available research tools. Research to answer questions often involves construction and testing of historical hypotheses, analysis of historical issues involved, and historical synthesis of disparate pieces of answers. Answering request from private citizens often requires working knowledge of security requirements and the Freedom of Information Act. Acquires and screens material for historical archives and assists in disseminating that historical information. Assists in organizing and maintaining archives. Archives contain material classified up to SECRET level, and assisting in the maintenance of archives often involves good working knowledge of procedures for marking, reviewing, downgrading, and declassifying, including knowledge of pertinent executive orders. Disseminates historical information using a variety of media including displays, oral presentations, electronic and paper publications, etc. Carries out special assignments. Performs taskings which are designed to further knowledge and skill in historical analysis and related functions, to include: researching regulatory and policy issuances; analyzing and summarizing data; developing briefing slides; preparing documentation to support project needs, such as memorandums and reference papers; presenting written and oral reports to supervisor or higher graded specialists; assessing impact of new program areas through analysis and trend analysis; etc. Attends and/or participates in courses, conferences, briefings and meetings to increase knowledge of functional processes, procedures, and current issues. Prepares summaries of pertinent information for application to current and future assignments.
