Etc. Only similar things and actions can provide "expecting different results."

Here in Palestine, I sometimes think my expectations of people are too
high. I want to them to work harder. I want my students at three
universities to read and think more. I want them all to act with
ethical considerations towards all living beings. I sometimes chastise
a child using a sling shot to hunt birds. I want those employed to be
charitable to those unemployed or impoverished. I want the
uncomfortable to be comforted and the comfortable elite to feel a bit
more uncomfortable (facing their conscience). I wish more people join
civil disobedience and other forms of resistance. I wish government
officials work at 20% efficiency instead of 5%. I want oppressors to
stop oppressing now. I also expect too much of myself. I have to be
careful of expectations and reality. People do what people do. Perhaps
we need to give ourselves and others some space (ofcourse without
acquiescence to injustice). Attempts at balance are faced with many
obstacles. We have nearly 100 years of colonial occupation that
started in 1918 when the Europeans came to help create a rampart of
the west against the “barbaric east”. It is highly funded (over $2
trillion in today’s dollars were spent on it), highly organized, and
with overwhelming influence on western media (and outright controlling
interest in most of the media). This colonial mentality became more
dangerous as it mixed with Jewish nationalism (the only thing that
Zionists wanted to keep from Jewish religious doctrines) and Christian
Zionist messianic lunacy (ala Falwel and Hagee). It succeeded partly
due to a feudal superstitious Arab society that stagnated under
Ottoman rule for five centuries. The West, while professing democracy
and human rights had a simple choice: let societies here go through
what Europe went through after the dark Middle Ages or support feudal
leaders who oppress their own people but keep western financial
interests in natural resources. Consistently western governments
choose the latter course of action but this is now getting
unsustainable as “troubles” here spill over to the west.
Madness is to continue to do the same thing expecting different
results. But I came to realize that the people pulling the strings
know exactly what they are doing. It is not the 1% of people who are
profiteers (or 0.1%) but how we deal with the 99% who are being used.
How do we address this? How to help people get out of being apathetic
to change their own lives without imposing on them our own agenda? If
you have experience in that, please share it. Is it possible to
really repair the system or should we replace it? This 13 minute
