Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I've been asked to help organize a conference/workshop at Western Michigan
University in honor of Dr. Rudolf J. Siebert's lifelong scholarly work and his
coming retirement. The workshop, sponsored by the Department of Comparative
Religion of WMU, will take place this fall in Kalamazoo, Michigan. A date has
yet to be set. At this point, we're attempting to gauge the interest and
availability of potential attendees and speakers. If you'd be interested in
attending and/or presenting some of your work, we'd greatly appreciate if you
could email me and let me know your availability. Of course, the
conference/workshop will focus on Rudi's Critical Theory of Religion and
Society, i.e. Dialectical Religiology, but will nevertheless be open to all
matters relating to religion, philosophy, sociology, etc. This event will be a
good time to catch up with Dr. Siebert, the Department of Comparative Religion,
and Rudi's former students and international colleagues.
As you may already know, Rudi was recently honored with Emeritus status for his
over 50 years of teaching and service to WMU. He was also recently recognized
by the state of Michigan, its governor Gretchen Whitmer, and representatives of
the legislature, for his "stellar career" at WMU. Congratulations to Rudi! The
recognition is well-deserved.
Also, if you know anyone who you think would be interested in the
conference/workshop, please forward their name to me and feel free to forward
this email to them. Additionally, if you have contact information for 1)
Nicholas Budimir, 2) Federico Velez-Velez, or 3) Anthony Squires, please let me
know. We want to extend invitations to all those who studied under and/or with
Rudi.
I hope to see you all in the fall!
Auf Wiedersehen!

Subject: [gha-peace] Re: Gandhica and Interfaith Harmony/Nonviolence Forums in
Russia and India in honor of the Gandhi anniversary and the Victory over fascism
our approach concerns all the currents philosophical and religious and not the
only Buddhists. Then, the movement directed by Mr IKEDA does not relate to all
the Buddhist schools but born in Japan starting from a reforming monk:Nichiren
DAISHONIN in spite of a progressive establishment in 192 countries of 1960 with
today what is remarkable, it is located in the logic of orthodoxe Buddhism, and
it does not exhaust all the currents of Buddhism inherited Hinayana and
Mahayana, and characteristics Buddhism Tibetan, etc. However, the SGI is very
implied for peace and is an original religious movement since composed of laic.
Since 1983, each year, Mr IKEDA addresses his proposal for peace to the General
secretary of UNO and to the authorities of peace. We are at the beginning of
August = the hollowest period of the year, Mr IKEDA, is 91 years old, before
drawing the hasty conclusions of their noncommitment, it would have to be
started again! Without being only implied or in dominant or privileged
situation = they can however play a role for the diffusion.Personally,
respecting all the humanistic convictions, I privilege the dialog and patience
before any hasty decision. If not, I hope to receive specimens GANDHI BOOK
before leaving BANDOL on August 24th, failing this then, I hope to receive them
in Vénissieux. Lastly, you did not answer my questions: Starting from September
1st, can I seek an editor for the edition in French language? Then, over the
10 years to come to feed the uninterrupted wire of peace = could one consider
other collective works starting from the contributions of: Martin Luther King,
Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, SISTER TERESA, other heroes of universal peace and
respect of the dignity of any existence? Cordially. Guy CREQUIEFrench messenger

Interfaith Harmony/Nonviolence Forums in Russia and India in honor of the
Gandhi anniversary and the Victory over fascism Dear GHA members, Friends,
Many thanks for your approval of the letters to Russian President Putin,
Governor of St. Petersburg and Consul of India. We did not receive a single
objection, although there were interesting proposals, for example, to send a
similar proposal to the leaders of the Vatican and the Orthodox Church. Perhaps
we will do it.
Now I invite you to discuss and approve by your YES or NO another our letter
within two days (we have very little time, but a lot of work) - to the head of
the state organization Rossotrudnichestvo (Russian Center for Science and
Culture) in India, Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta with the same proposal: support the
Interfaith Nonviolence/Harmony Forum in honor of the Gandhi anniversary and the
Victory over fascism in these cities of India. This letter complements our
letter to President Putin (see attachment and here too:
https://peacefromharmony.org/?cat=en_c&key=863).
The main subject of execution of this part of our project is the GHA-India and
the GHA Gandhi Committee, which includes most of the GHA Indian members.
Therefore, we are waiting responses and clarifying proposals from them first.
Because our Buddhist colleagues from Japan are silent, obviously, they are
abandoning the role of leaders of interfaith harmony/nonviolence, I propose to
rename our project from “Gandhica and Buddhism” to “Gandhica and Interfaith
Harmony/Nonviolence” (GIHN). Do you agree with that? This title does not limit
our universal project to one faith but applies to everything, as in previous
GHA projects dedicated to interfaith harmony:
https://peacefromharmony.org/?cat=en_c&key=541
We hope to your understanding and implement this project not only in Russia and
India, but also in other peace-loving countries, for example, China, Brazil,
Ghana, Ethiopia, Greece, Japan, Malaysia and many others.
Best wishes for peace from harmony/nonviolence,
Leo
