A TV network last night used this subtitle “2021--Escape from 2020”, to imply
that we can try a fresh start of sorts. So this morning, in the first day of
2021, I was contemplating the awesome challenges ahead this year that we as a
society --indeed as a global community— are facing. My dour outlook was
immediately lifted by this old song that just happened to be played on the
radio at the same time: "Yes We Can Can.”
As a warm up or at some point, I recommend listening to The Pointer Sisters
(originally from Oakland) to perhaps brighten our souls via their 1973
gospel-like hit soul tune “Yes We Can Can”. So my new motto for “2021, I know
darn well we can work it out!"

Now's the time for all good men
To get together with one another.
We got to iron out our problems
And iron out our quarrels
And try to live as brothers.
And try to find peace within
Without stepping on one another.
And do respect the women of the world.
Remember you all have mothers.
We got to make this land a better land
Than the world in which we live.
And we got to help each man be a better man
With the kindness that we give.
I know we can make it.
I know darn well we can work it out.
Oh yes we can, I know we can can
Yes we can can, why can't we?
If we wanna get together we can work it out.
And we gotta take care of all the children,
The little children of the world.
'Cause they're our strongest hope for the future,
The little bitty boys and girls.
We got to make this land a better land
Than the world in which we live.
And we got to help each man be a better man
With the kindness that we give.
I know we can make it.
I know darn well we can work it out.
Oh yes we can, I know we can can
Yes we can can, why can't we?
If we wanna, yes we can can.

Dear Friends,
Tomorrow we meet via Zoom! Details for joining will magically arrive in your
inbox before the meeting. Before the official start time, our host Douglas
Burns will open the zoom room so people can get settled, make sure their zoom
is working properly, and chat a bit before we begin.
Bettina Gray will begin her presentation at 10:30am on our theme "Hope is on
the Way."
After a short break, Sara Blackstock and Diana Elwyn will lead us in the
social portion of the morning.
At approximately 1pm, we will take another small break so participants can
gather the components needed for the worship service, to be led by Stephen
Zendt. Stephen reminds everyone that they will need to provide their own
bread and wine (or toast and juice) for the remembrance portion of the
worship.
Happy New Year to you,
La Presidenta
