Susan, and all...... As Susan said, as of last Wednesday we only had 2 signed up and the deadline to make this a "no' or "go" is coming soon. I just now called and we now have 6 signed up so maybe things will turn around. Marcos is trying to do a last ditch effort to get some more signed up for the Sat. Nov.1 Geocaching 101. The parks dept. is still behind us 100%, but they have changed the way they do their mailings for their outdoor programs, events, classes, etc. Only 1/3 as many brochures were sent out this summer as opposed to the last winter mailings. They said some programs that were full last time (like ours) have NO registrations at this point. I assume it's a cost problem because the full color 25 page brochures have to cost quite a bit. We are also setup to hold another 101 seminar in April 2004, so maybe that is the one we should push for. As an alternative to the seminar, and since we will still have the learning center for the day (heated and restrooms), I was thinking of holding a "maintenance event" cache. Those that are not up to speed on some of the workings with updates and downloading could bring in their GPS's and we could update them with the latest versions of the software from Garmin, Magellan, and ??. We would also have spare cables for those that don't have cables to apply the updates. This might also be a good time to have a small workshop on the hot subjects like PDA's (Palm and Windows PPC), third party programs like Watcher. We wouldn't have the projector to use with the laptops (unless someone could bring one :-) but we could make due. I realize this is short notice to put on another event, but several have already planned on helping out so hopefully we can get something going. Hopefully by Friday of this week we'll make the decision on what we will do. If we don't have the 101 seminar, I'll make up an event page for the maintenance workshop. I'm sure he will reply to your post shortly, but just in case, he told me at the picnic that very few people have signed up and they may cancel it. Maybe you can still get together for caching though. Susan - Is anyone coming to the geocaching 101 seminar given by RGS and company on November 1 from 10AM-3PM ? The cost is $10, you can register by calling 314-416-4374. It will be at Greensfelder County Park, located behind 6 Flags in Eureka. I am planning to register and maybe doing some group caching in Eureka afterwards. Maybe I can learn a few pointers...
