- I saw Denali three times from the air on two round trip flights in 1995 from Anchorage, AK to Prudhoe Bay, Ak (was in Prudhoe Bay doing Oil Well corrosion testing in the North Slope Oilfields). It is an awsome sight from 33,000 ft. You see the summit and the glaciers as they flow down from the mountain like rivers. I took a flightseeing trip up to about 12,000 ft in July of 1996 in a Cessna 76, 6 passenger. It was a great trip, but the weather kept the pilot below clouds so we didn't get to see the summit. This vacation trip included a two day trip up the Dalton Highway (Alaska Pipeline Haul Road from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay, a 475 mile trip via gravel road. No, I didn't drive it, we went with a tour in two 10 passenger vans. A great trip which included a return flight from Prudhoe Bay to Point Barrow (northern most point in North America) back to Fairbanks. Alaska is a great state to see, one the I would love to go back to for geocaching. How about a geocache that could only be reached by float plane. Just checked Buxley's Geocaching Waypoint web site, as of today there are 137 caches in Alaska. Several places that I visited in the Alaska road trip in 1996: GC94D4 Artic Circle crossing via the Pipeline haul road; GC8302 Prudhoe Bay Postoffice (Zipcode 99734) and General Store (visited this store many time during the oil field trips of 1995); GC6341Willey Post - Will Rodgers Memorial Monument in Barrow; GCEA2E in Homer, Alaska; GCD1CP near Dawson City, Yukon Territory, Canada; GC7EAE near Beautiful "Downtown" Chicken, Alaska. (can anyone tell me why this town was named Chicken). Ther are many more that are on the route we took but these are some of my favorite stops on that trip. Too bad geocaching didn't exist then. Well just a good excuse to go back. motexoutlaw Ben Outlaw benoutlaw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Rosenberg, TX Member: Southeast Texas Geocachers Association http://www.houstoncachers.org Texas Geocaching Association http://www.texasgeocaching.com St. Louis Area Geocachers Association (SLAGA) http://www.geostl.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Russ Wilner" <rjwilner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <geocaching@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, March 29, 2003 8:14 PM Subject: [GeoStL] Re: bottomfeeders ...??? > - > > -----Original Message----- > > From: geocaching-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > > [mailto:geocaching-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jeff > > Sent: Saturday, March 29, 2003 9:15 PM > > > > > > Have you been to Denali? > > > > > As close as you can get! > > We did a flightseeing tour around it....pretty awesome sight. > > > -=Russ=- > > **************************************************************************** > Our WebPage!
