You think you are kidding, but here is a trick a friend and I used. He
thought his wife was fooling around on him and wanted to see where she went
when she left to go 'shopping'. He wanted to trail her, but logistically
that is difficult. We used a tracking program in my palm pilot-gps setup
that took a point every 30 seconds. He turned it on and put it in her car
before she left one day (hidden of course). After she came home, we
downloaded the results and overlayed the points on a map. Guess what. She
went to the mall, Walmart, and some little shopping center. Now before you
poo poo the operation, It eventually came to be that she was cheating on him
and they are now getting a divorce. Its not quite lo-jack, but you can
determine someones movements after the fact.
