- Bernie, my rule of thumb is this: If you get it back, you misplaced it, if you never see it again, you lost it. Key difference there is if it's recovered and returned to the owner. Last year, I thought I had lost my phone, but Craig found it, so actually I only misplaced it, on the ground, in a park, in St. Charles.
