However, caching started before Geocaching.com. So would not the number be from when they got listed on Geocaching.com not when they were placed. So for the caches that existed before Geocaching.com, did they become a cache when they were placed and listed elsewhere, or did they become a cache when they were listed on gc.com? Another complicating factor is letterboxs that existed prior to Geocaching and where converted to geocaches. Remember the Mohmers? Their GC606 was placed in 1999 as a letterbox. It is no longer active, but do we know if there are any other letterboxs still active that were placed before Clinton turned off Selective Availability? It is the oldest active cache. Some say There is one older in Colorado, GC19. I have done that one too. However, the lower number doesn't mean it has an earlier date. Others mentioned that the date placed can be anything submitted. I don't know how the early numbers were dished out but it would make sense if the server autogenerated In order. Therefore, GC19 would be the oldest active. Mike Griffin World Wide Technology, INC. O - 314-995-8935 C - 314-308-0916 Sent from my AT&T iPhone. Please excuse any typos. GC1HTTN has no (serious) claim. Date on the published log entry is November 3, 2008. Nice tongue in cheek cache description, though.
