You can set it up just using the trail method or you could give them a
bearing or coordinates that you would enter into a GPS to find the trail
back. What I mean is take them out a ways then end the trail with a tag with
the information needed to find the trail back closer to the cache. Does that
make sense?

What makes a night cache a night cache?

We've never been on a "real" night cache and are thinking about setting one 
up for personal use.  From what I've read it's basically "follow the 
firetack trail". Therefore you really don't need a GPSr -- especially if we 
hand somoene a flashlight and say "Start over there."  Is it best to follow 
a "Red right returning" kind of thing or is there some other rule of thumb 
for wandering around in the woods at night with only  a flashlight.
