- You can set it up just using the trail method or you could give them a bearing or coordinates that you would enter into a GPS to find the trail back. What I mean is take them out a ways then end the trail with a tag with the information needed to find the trail back closer to the cache. Does that make sense? We've never been on a "real" night cache and are thinking about setting one up for personal use. From what I've read it's basically "follow the firetack trail". Therefore you really don't need a GPSr -- especially if we hand somoene a flashlight and say "Start over there." Is it best to follow a "Red right returning" kind of thing or is there some other rule of thumb for wandering around in the woods at night with only a flashlight. Where to buy firetacks?
