Resend to let everyone know what has been going on... gln -----Original Message----- From: Glenn Subject: RE: MjLikePink contacting you from Geocaching.com Hi guys & gals, Ever since we spoke in your front yard last year, I have liked ya'll and I have known that the kids inspired the letterboxes and of course there is no ill will directed toward the children or you. However, (there is always a however), all those the letterboxes didn't get placed without parental support and input. I am sure you didn't make your daughter drive over and place the caches herself, sign up for the geo-accounts and do all the other things that would require your involvement. So, while the boxes may "belong" to the children, I know you can't expect them to get out and do the repairs. That wouldn't be right. However, placing letterboxes or caches does involve a bit of commitment, and hassling, and time to maintain a good quality entertainment for others. I am assuming you are doing this for the enjoyment of others too, right? As parents, we do stuff all the time that we would rather not do but since it's for the kids, we do it. We don't want to see our kids hurt so we walk them to the park, we go to countless softball games, soccer games, scout meetings, karate tournaments and we even go roller skating to make sure they are OK when then they fall down, and we fix up our geo-boxes just because as parents, we have to. As a parent, I know that you do not want to see negative comments attached to anything you children do. From schoolwork to extracurricular activities, sometimes negative things do happen. Dealing with negative things is also part of learning to cope with life. Restricting negative comments will not make negative things go away, it just makes them worse. You can make negative things relating to your letterboxes go away, fix the long neglected boxes and all will be well with the world. If you don't have the time or the inclination, temporarily archive the boxes so other cachers will not have to deal with another wet, trashed letterbox. The cachers in the bi-state area have been working hard to maintain quality caching in the area. Frankly, I know that you are aware that your boxes have been reported as wet, trashed, soaked torn up for many, many months and long before this April. When a comment is made, rarely is there anything other than the "We're busy ect ..." excuse posted to the sites. I have cleaned up more dead letterboxes than I care to count. I have about 9 caches and struggle to maintain them. I know that you guys have quite a few letterboxes. If you cant maintain them any longer there is so shame in archiving the box and redoing another one later. This is the kind of stuff that the land managers are concerned about. There is a point at which a geocache becomes geo-trash and letterboxes are no more than litter. I am sure you do not want to teach you children that littering is OK. Not all letterboxes are doing poorly tho. Sitting pretty Suzie is still in good shape and surprisingly still there. I remember it being higher last year. So you see, we are not out to hurt the children, just the opposite actually. All of the "Eastside letterboxes" are great beginners caches and the caches that are great for kids because they are "kid themed". Don't ya want to provide them with a good letterboxing/geocaching experience for your visitors? Don't ya feel bad that when folks get there all they see is a mess and can't even have the fun of leaving their stamp in the book? That just might turn some of the sensitive kids away from this hobby of finding hidden treasures. I will forward this to the St. Louis Area Geocachers Assn. discussion group so they also know that you are addressing these concerns in a timely manner and to give them a chance to reply. She is only 7...I am sure that you guys don't intend to be mean but for a little one comments like some that have been made seem harsh and have, in the past, hurt her feelings. So in order to be the overprotective mom, I have deleted comments or sometimes just encrypted them for her sake (and my 10 yr old son) and for the sake of her friends who she has invited to get involved in geocaching or letterboxing. Always the written word came take on an unintended meaning since we don't know the tone of voice. Please feel free to contact me directly when you have a qualm or a problem with one of our boxes. Because of some of the comments we have received, all my kids geocache mail comes to me. Thank you for understanding. We can't know everyones circumstances and since this is a hobby otherthings have to come first ...like family and health , etc. My kids and I have enjoyed your logs in the past. I really don't try to offend anyone with our replies or by deleting some posts. I am sorry if I have. Feel free to reply, Thank you, Mohmers I would appreciate it if you would delete your non necessary logs yourself, that way I won't offend you in anyway. :o) ------------------------------------------------------ The user has also sent you their email address (or reply to this message): Mohmers@xxxxxxx ***************************************************************************** Our NEW WebPage!
