I am thrilled to announce that we finally got a spot in the council
agenda, to ask City Council to endorse the Gaukel Greenway plan.
What: Finance & Corporate Services Committee
When: Monday June 17, 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Where: 2nd Floor Council Chambers, Kitchener City Hall

They will be discussing Kitchener's new strategic plan at the same
meeting, which will include priorities around environmental leadership and
safe transportation. Gaukel Greenway fits well into both of those themes!
Also on the agenda is our City's response to the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission calls to action. If you can stay for the whole thing, it looks
like they'll be discussing lots of important decisions.
Our presentation will be the first item on the agenda. If you can, please
attend the meeting. The more people who show up, the more likely it is that
council will support the request.
Thanks for your support so far, we are so close to getting Gaukel Greenway
on the table!
We have received support so far from: Ward 1 councillor Scott Davey, Ward
8 councillor Margaret Johnston, Ward 9 councillor Debbie Chapman, Ward 10
councillor Sarah Marsh, and Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. Only need one more to
make it a majority :)
I am meeting with Ward 2 councillor Dave Schnider on Wednesday June 12th,
if anyone would like to join me for that meeting, let me know.
To recap, this is our request that we want council to approve:

direct Transportation Services and Economic Development staff to:*
*1. Ensure Gaukel Street remains closed to motor vehicles between Charles
and King, immediately after Charlie West construction equipment is
removed (estimated Nov 2019)*
*2. Form an ad-hoc Gaukel Greenway working group including
staff, residents, business owners, and arts &
culture representatives.3. Develop a parking access plan to Hall’s Lane for
185 King Street West (Pizza Pizza) and 191 King Street South (PUC Building)*
*4. Make Gaukel Greenway a regular bookable event space through Kitchener
Events.*
