Let's think about putting together a presentation for the Public Budget Input
Night on Monday, Jan. 13.
I will follow up later next week with some suggested times where we can do a
bit of a working meeting to prepare our pitch to Council.
Also, watch out for a City engagement survey coming soon about what types of
elements/layout you would like to see on the Gaukel St.
As for the transit terminal, that's a Region-owned property so the City of
Kitchener doesn't have exclusive authority there. There will be a separate
consultation process for that land over the next couple years to figure out how
to best use it. The Region is aware of the Gaukel St. pedestrian-first plans,
so they will definitely have to work with the new vision for Gaukel!

Dave - My understanding is that the resurfacing of Goudie's Lane was a
necessary evil, but that there is commitment and enthusiasm from the City to
bring back the colour and life in the spring, so not to worry! There is

Speaking of colouring the street, I was very disappointed to see that the
section of Goudie Lane that had been painted all sorts of colours and designs
was paved over. (Sigh) Asphalt is so nondescript and uninspiring.
Thanks for the work that you are doing on Gaukel. Here’s to hoping that it
can become the new Goudie Lane with lots of colour, art installations, trees,
etc.

Kitchener's 2020 Budget
The proposed 2020 Kitchener budget includes funding for a Gaukel Street
Closure in 2020 and 2021. This is the result of incredible hard work and
advocacy by community members, business leaders, staff and our city Council.
This budget proposal follows up the City of Kitchener's decision to include
Gaukel Street as a pedestrian route in its 2019-2022 Strategic Plan.
Urbanist Brent Toderian says, "The truth about a city's aspirations isn't
found in its vision. It's found in its budget." We're so happy to see the
commitment to Gaukel Street being realized in the 2020 budget!
