I'd like to start a discussion about our desired timing for the 3 phases we
discussed in Friday's meeting:
Phase 1: King St. to Hall's Lane
Phase 2: Hall's Lane to Charles
Phase 3: Charles to Joseph
There is a possibility, if we move quick enough and council is very supportive,
of having Phase 1 implemented as a pilot project for this summer 2019.
The benefit of such a quick timing would be keeping the Gaukel greenway idea in
peoples' minds, and providing an alternate gathering space when Carl Zehr
square goes under construction this summer.
The risk is that such a pilot project would be seen as premature, since there
will not be time for staff to make a report to council. There is also no budget
currently set aside. And if it doesn't get implemented well, it could hurt our
chances at getting approval for the rest of the greenway.
Currently, I'm thinking there are more benefits than risks to pushing for Phase
1 this summer.
What do you think?
(I will start a separate thread to talk about design considerations)
