That was fun! Here are my take-home notes. -Val Magno Most Library Staff know there is a Courtesy Card option, some mention it to patrons when the opportunity presents itself, but it is not actively promoted. Courtesy cards are used mostly for access to Lawrence University. Demand seems to be dropping, but can still be high (68 in 2009 for one library). Widespread coverage is convenient: Convenient to cover all of FVLC, and to already have some kind of structure in place to "administer" it. From an ILL standpoint, it's a great way to get things to the patron fast, and with less tracking and paperwork on our part. Used primarily by repeat customers or those who need something ASAP and cannot wait for ILL. People who know about it and use it seem to like it, but most patrons are not aware of it, or don't use it even if they are told about it. Should only issue courtesy cards on library cards in good standing with permanent addresses, not for temporary address such as half way houses or the shelters.
