The Main Event:
CCBC Choices
Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC) librarians Merri Lindgren and Megan
Schliesman will talk about Great New Books for Children, and Great New Books
for Older Children and Teens, highlighting selected books from CCBC Choices
2018. All books included in CCBC Choices 2018 will be available for hands-on
examination.
Breakout Session:
The Five Protective Factors
Protective factors are conditions that, when present, increase the health and
well-being of children and families. These attributes serve as buffers, helping
caregivers find resources, support, or coping strategies that allow them to
parent effectively, even under stress. Research has shown that the protective
factors are linked to a lower incidence of child abuse and neglect. Attend this
session to identify strategies to strengthen families who have experienced
stress & challenging life situations, and to infuse those strategies into your
everyday practice.
Lunchtime Session:
2017 Youth Services Institute Cohort sharing time
While you're enjoying lunch, members of the 2017 Youth Services Institute
Cohort will provide an informal sharing time, where they'll talk about what
they learned, and let us know ways we can help them succeed in their plans and
goals.
A single copy of CCBC Choices 2018 has been sent to each public library in
Wisconsin, and we expect to have additional copies for workshop attendees.
This workshop is co-sponsored by the Manitowoc-Calumet Library System, Nicolet
Federated Library System, Outagamie Waupaca Library System, and Winnefox
Library System.
