dear friends, am passing this along from village trustee henry tobin, who has worked to make this market happen. please stop by if you can. thanks. --dick wiltamuth Due to concerns that the damp weather predicted for tomorrow may also dampen spirits and turn out, I am asking your 11th hour help in promoting tomorrow morning's farmers' market. Success tomorrow is vital to organizing a market next year, as eleborated on in the following message. Please forward it, or anything that you may think is better, to others who live in our area. Thanks, Henry Rain Or Shine--Northport's first farmers' market will be held tomorrow, Saturday, from 9 AM until Noon in the parking lot between Main St, Woodbine Ave, the harbor, and Cow Harbor Park (which is the one with the playground and basketball court). Right now (Friday evening) the National Weather Service on-line predicts for Northport: " Saturday: Periods of rain, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 68. South wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible." Let's all make sure that we have a great turn out despite any rain. We began the farmers' market project for several reasons: (1) To provide ourselves with fresh, local produce that isn't otherwise available, (2) Because we feel that it will attract more people to Northport and that that will help to support our business community, and (3) In order to support Long Island's farmers. Even if it rains, especially if it rains, your visiting the farmers' market and buying some items tomorrow will be the most important factor in determining our success in organizing a farmers' market for next year. Hopefully next year we will have one every Saturday from mid-May through mid-November. In addition to local baymen who will be presenting their catch of local seafood, several of the vendors who will be here tomorrow include some of Long Island's premier farmers: Sang Lee Farms, Catapano Dairies, and Northville Farms. Some farmers who decided not to participate said that one reason for their decision is to avoid the risk of coming to Northport's untested market. Those who will be here are taking that risk. They understand that a couple of trial markets will help to make for a better operation next year and are willing to help test Northport towards this goal. A good turnout in the rain will help to reward their risk-taking and give them cause to help spread the word for next year. So, join these farmers and us tomorrow--rain or shine--and pick up some great fresh, local produce.
