:: GnuCash Setup
Goose and I worked on the new bookkeeping system for FGM. Goose
installed GnuCash on the lab server. We created an accounting group
to limit access to the FGM database. However, everyone with a login
can create their own accounting database which allows us to teach
accounting in the lab.
On the downside, GnuCash is a bit too user-friendly. It allows users
to delete transactions and chart of accounts items. A business class
accounting system would not allow either transaction. Maybe GnuCash
keeps an auditing trail so such transactions are preserved somewhere.
:: Lab Clean Up
Next week, we'll move the remaining tables and materials to the
warehouse so the lab will be presentable if not absolutely complete.
:: Donation Pick Up
****tel donated three color laser printers to FGM. All are
operational according the night manager at ****tel. Albert, John
(Forrest), Goose and I wrestled the laser printers down the stairs
and on to the pickup truck. The largest printer (its a whopper) is a
Xerox; the desktop units are HP. New color carts from Staples are
$100 each for 7200 pages. HP black carts do 12,000 pages and are
$200. We brainstormed uses for the printers and whether we should
sell them, keep them or give them away.
:: Recycling News
John (Forrest) arranged for our test vendor to pick up 4-5 skids of
material last Friday. The pickup was quick and easy. A local company
sent a truck which hauled our materials to their terminal and
forwarded it to Chicago. John called our account manager, confirmed
receipt of the shipment and requested an accounting of the shipment.
More on income/expense when John gets the info. If this first
shipment doesn't lose money, we will question the vendor about issues
which will allow us to refine our inventory handling.
:: Warehouse Thursday
This Thursday night volunteers will inventory printers and UPS units.
Whatever is no good will be put on skids for shipment to Chicago. The
rest will be set aside for refurb.
