Yeah I've got a server that has been up 227 days now (as of this morning). It's one of the K6 based systems slated for replacement. It's been pretty lucky. No ups, etc. I think it's a 350mhz system. All it does is firewall the DSL connection and file server for 4 pc's in the office.I was doing server maintenance at work. For fun, I checked uptime on the company’s web and ftp server, an HP Vectra 300 MHz box from the warehouse, loaded with Slackware 10.1. Uptime? 228 days. I’ve rebooted it once since I installed it, and I can’t remember why. It is a wonder what a good OS on a cheap box can do at a data center with solid air conditioning, power filtering and generator backup.Tom
Unfortunately the Intel systems are not so lucky. Kernel patches have rebooted all of them several times. Normally I don't worry about kernel patches but any of my systems that connect directly to the Internet always get patched/updated and reboot when need be. Something about system security..... <grin>
