I have a used Dell Inspiron B130 on which I wiped XP and installed VL 6.0. These laptops apparently contain a BIOS extension on the hard drive. When I wiped the drive, I eliminated fan regulation. Oops. Dellfand is a fan regulator which works for quite a few Dell laptops including the B130. http://dellfand.dinglisch.net/ One thing, don't start dellfand at boot time. Wait until you have a command line or desktop. I first put a start up script in rc.local. When the script executed, it interrupted the boot up sequence. It might work better to background the script and point it's output to the bit bucket for safe measure. There is an init.d control script which may be adaptable to VL. btw, at the web-dev meeting tonight Imre said that his HP/Compaq Evo laptop fan works with Puppy Linux. So the chipset is either supported in the Linux kernel in spite of our failed efforts to find the support module, or someone in the Puppy community wrote a support driver or utility.
