*Missouri Attorney General files suit against e-scrap processor *
A quaint piece of land located in the Ozark Mountains of Southern Missouri stands as a reminder of the dark side of e-scrap recycling. In 2000, Elmer Dillard purchased land in Echo Valley, about 10 miles north of Rolla. Dillard began collecting electronic equipment, charging users $5 to recycle a computer monitor. Little did the government agencies, schools and other businesses that dealt with Dillard know their discarded electronic equipment was being dumped in Echo Valley rather than being recycled.
Dillard then defaulted on his mortgage payments and the land was repossessed by the previous owners, who estimate more than 10,000 computer monitors are strewn across the property as well as other electronics.
Another e-scrap processor, Midwest Recycling (Chicago), has set up shop and is operating a warehouse on the property to in-part remediate the dump site left by Dillard as well as accept new electronic equipment for proper recycling. However, the remediation project was not making the progress that State Attorney General Jay Nixon had expected. He has filed a lawsuit against Robert Sooter, the present owner of the property, as well as Jon Roberts, the owner of Midwest Recycling.
In the suit, Nixon is asking the court to order the defendants to stop accepting e-scrap, transport all current e-scrap and any other discarded materials to a licensed disposal facility, immediately come into compliance with the Missouri Solid Waste Management Law and the Missouri Hazardous Waste Management Law, and pay fines for violations.

*PC shipments beat first-quarter projections *
The growth in the shipment of PCs outpaced projections in the first three months of 2006. IDC (Framingham, Massachusetts), a market research group, projected PC shipment growth at 11.8 percent, which was surpassed as growth in PC shipments topped off at 12.6 percent in the first quarter. IDC expects the 2006 average PC shipment growth will be 10.8 percent, up just slightly from the annual projection posted in March at 10.5 percent.
The outlook for 2007 was also readjusted to 11.7 percent and 2008 shipment growth is projected at 10.6 percent. Overall, IDC anticipates global shipments to top 230 million this year, nearly 257 million in 2007 and to continue growing to 285 million in 2008.
Though shipments are expected to continue growing through 2010, growth will be slower than has been experienced in recent years, where, for example, unit shipments increased by 16 percent in 2005. Overall revenue from PC shipments is expected to grow steadily by three to five percent annually through 2010.

The intrinsic value of recyclable PC boards in June 2006 was $3.27 per pound, 12.3 percent below the value the previous month but 51.4 percent above the value a year earlier. The average price in the six months at $3.17 was 48.8 percent above the level in the 2005 period.
