Are there any news regarding this?

Maybe a sensible first step would be for one of the administrators to ask planio support if new users for migrated hostedredmine instances would be viable.

I agree with Andreas but I think a more independent hoster with some FOSS spirit might be a better fit.

A quick search came up with two candidates:

Would be much better for contributors.

Since hostedredmine moved under planio, there seems to be only an
option to sign in with an existing hostedredmine account, and no
option to create a new account. Further, the hostedredmine.com [1]
main
page says: "HostedRedmine.com by Planio remains free for all
existing
users, ...". Note word "existing".
If, like it seems, we can't have new users to hostedredmine, this
is
serious issue for the project. It's always important to get new
volunteers in, and especially as we are low on manpower.
That "low on manpower" part unfortunately also means that it's not
clear how fast we can react. We already have too long TODO of high
priority issues. Let me know if somebody from the community would
volunteer to investigate our options.

For the time being one option for new volunteers is to send
patches
to this mailing list, from which maintainers then submit them to
hostedredmine. I'm afraid this is not an waterproof process. To
make
sure we don't miss your patch, please ping again if nobody has
reacted
to a patch you've sent in a couple of days.
