Joe,
I made an assumption about the environment buttons--that they were not
configured to call an overlay. I think that may be a possibility that we have
not implemented here. So, it may be worthwhile to open the environment file
and take a look there, too. A sure way to test the concept of "one file, two
ways to call it" is to create two buttons on a display. Configure one button
to call the file as an overlay and the other to call the file as a display.
You can prove the concept, then delete the buttons. I went back to a console a
couple of time to refresh my memory. While I was there, I checked (via d_edit
-dump) to see if there is a configurable aspect in the display itself. I did
not find anything. However, proving that something does not exist is always
less sure than proving that something does exist.

I'll have to test that again, because I saw the opposite behavior, which is
what made me realize I had accidentally created it as an overlay in the first
place. It's a new version of a menu display that I already normally call from
one of the buttons configured in the environment to show up at the top of DM.
Perhaps the button to call it was configured wrong, I never checked that.
