FV 9 is available for Solaris 2.5.1 and Solaris 8 workstations and
Nodebus based Windows workstations.

FV 10 is available for Mesh based workstations (Solaris or Windows).

The .fdf format between Windows/Intel and Solaris/SPARC is different -
always. That is, they are binary file formats and have to be changed
based on the microprocessor in use.

The .g format is different between FoxView 10 and FoxView 9 depending on
the features used. That is, FV10 has features that FV9 doesn't know how
to execute.

A FV9 display (either Windows or Solaris) can be reliably converted to
FV10 (either Windows or Solaris).

A FV10 display (either Windows or Solaris) cannot be guaranteed to
convert to FV9, but generally the display will convert. You just have to
avoid using the new features.

If you build with FV/FD 9, you will minimize your issues. The conversion
is as follows:

1) Build graphic somewhere
2) Convert to .g using fdf_g.
3) Move .g to somewhere else
4) Convert to .fdf using g_fdf.

IACC can be used to minimize the pain of this because it supports
distributing the .g files and converting them.

Alternatively, move your workstations to the MESH network and settle on
FV10. This is our recommendation.

Does this help?

Subject: [foxboro] FoxView 9vs10/Unix vs Windows

After a long discussion with Foxboro over some upgrade options, I am
left more confused than I began. I was told by Foxboro FV10 displays
cannot be used on FV9 for UNIX and there was no 10 to 9 conversion.
However, we have FV9 and FV10 for windows and we use the same displays
on both. Is there a difference FV9 vs FV10 or is it FVUnix vs FVWindows
where there is a difference? =

Thanks.
