First of all, assumedly you know which of the pair has failed. If not, the
6 character address printed on the
front can be correlated with your system management display to see. Pull
the failed one and the running one
keeps going.
When you put a replacement unit in that slot, it talks to the running unit
and copies the running unit's EEPROM and
running software, then starts up as shadow. I don't remember if the fibers
should be connected before plugging it
in, or after, probably after.
Your shelf spare should be programed with letterbug NOSUCH. That is
important if you are connecting a simplex FCP,
or the first side of a FT pair as it will send out a reboot request as soon
as it powers up. If you are plugging in an FCP
as the second of an FT pair, like in this case, I think it doesn't matter.
The IP address, by the way, is picked up from the boot host as part of the
reboot download.
You mentioned the Reset button. You can hit it on the failed side and it
should go thru some basic diagnostics, then
it should try to pull in the EEPROM and running software images.
Pushing that button on the single running unit will cause a reset and a
reload process. It will be off line 5 minutes or so.
FBMs may go to fail-safe, as configured. Block parameters take the values
at last checkpoint then initialize.

Hi.
We have a failed FCP270, it is one of a redundant pair and so installing a
replacement is not critical but important.
This is the first FCP failure we have encountered in the 6 or so years they
have been installed, we did have redundant CP30/40/60 which were simple to
replace.
We have one spare FCP270 which I am reluctant to install because I would
need to purchase a replacement.
I am tempted to press the 'Reset' button but not sure what would result.
Do these FCPs require a IP address to be programmed before they are
installed, we purchased a 'Pharos' device from Foxboro years ago to program
IP addresses but I think they are required for a FBM232.
