Hi Joe,
It depends on the type of your Siemens CPU (ex: SIMATIC S7-400: CPU 412-1 /
412-2, 412-2 PN, 414-2 / 414-3, 414-3 PN/DP, 416-2 / 416-3, 416-3 PN/DP, 417-4).
Example: CPU 416-2 Central processing unit with: work memory 2.8 MB, (1.4 MB
code, 1.4 MB data), 1st interface MPI/DP 12 Mbit/s, 2nd interface PROFIBUS DP.
Then you must choose the type of the Interface that you want to use, ex.
Interface type: RS485, then you must define the Protocols you want to use, ex.
PROFIBUS DP master, PROFIBUS DP slave.
The Siemens PLC interface configuration depends mostly on the CPU you have in
the system. The system integration will have to be tested as much as possible
on an off-line system.
It will require a good understanding of the hardware you already have in the
system and the composition of the messages sent across the bus. (Are you using
Matrikon OPC Server?). Also, Foxboro may impose some delays that has to be
considered when the control interface is implemented with FBM222/223.
If you have more info to share on this site, then we will help with this
integration.
Ion.

Subject: [foxboro] DCS link to Siemens Simatic S7-400 with Profibus DP
We are trying to establish a link between our Foxboro DCS and a Siemens Simatic
S7-400 PLC system. For most of our PLCs, we use FBM230/232/233 to read data via
Modbus. However, this Siemens PLC already has an Anybus Profibus
Master-Profibus Slave device set up on it which was used for remote monitoring
by a vendor when they were running the Siemens system for us. Now our own
operators are running the system, and we would like to be able to monitor
(and/or control) it from the DCS.
I just found out the FBM222 and FBM223 are made for Profibus, and I'm thinking
since the Profibus stuff is all there it should take less configuration on the
Siemens side compared to setting up a brand new Modbus connection - is that
right? Can someone give me some direction on how to accomplish this? How do you
connect the hardware? Would the Anybus device still need to be there, or does
the FBM take its place? I'm pretty new to the Siemens S7 system and Profibus.
I also need to decide whether to get a system integrator to help or try to do
this all in-house, so trying to determine how complex this will be.
