Dm.cfg just lets you give DM's a personality.... You could put dozens of DM's in there for a particular letterbug. IIF.lum.....enforces the additional DM's you actually purchased....and limits you to that qty. As we know...those are just "paper" licenses and in SysDef you can put in what you want. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Russ Boulay | Schneider Electric | Process Automation | United States | Support Engineering Manager Phone: +1 508 446 1769 | Mobile: +1 508 446 1769 Email: russ.boulay@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx | Site: https://support.ips.invensys.com | Address: Fairfield, California 94534 United States *** Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail -----Original Message----- From: foxboro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:foxboro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Gunter, Matt Sent: Thursday, June 05, 2014 6:55 AM To: 'foxboro@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: Re: [foxboro] Counting licenses Thanks Scott, I did not indicate the OS. We are talking about Solaris (SunBlade 1500 boxes - both red and silver). I have implemented your recommendation and it works. This leads to what I suppose is a final question. What is the correlation between the dmcfg and the IIF.lum? The dmcfg file is relatively simple and I should be able to edit it to have a consistently generated configuration that supports the number of DM licenses. Again, thanks to all. If XP the 2nd FV on the workstation must be floating. A quick workaround for this if you can't figure it out doing a compare between old and new dmcfg file is; use the old dmcfg file and manually copy the new WPxxxx.cfg file (am config) to where it needs to go. /usr/fox/customer/config/current_config.dir/WPxxxx/WPxxxx.cfg (from box with AM-DMconfig) to /usr/fox/customer/alarms/cfg (WPxxxx) ________________________________________ From: foxboro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [foxboro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Boulay, Russ [Russ.Boulay@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, June 04, 2014 7:06 PM To: foxboro@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [foxboro] Counting licenses How many DM's are configured on that station.....and what does /usr/fox/sp/IIF.lum have for an entry for that workstation _____________________________________________________________________________________ Russ Boulay | Schneider Electric | Process Automation | United States | Support Engineering Manager Phone: +1 508 446 1769 | Mobile: +1 508 446 1769 Email: russ.boulay@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx | Site: https://support.ips.invensys.com | Address: Fairfield, California 94534 United States *** Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail -----Original Message----- From: foxboro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:foxboro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Gunter, Matt Sent: Wednesday, June 04, 2014 4:57 PM To: 'foxboro@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: Re: [foxboro] Counting licenses Philip, Thanks for your quick response. I've double checked to make sure all FV instances are accounted for in the configurator and the dmcfg file. I've switched back and forth a couple of times for each station and the response is consistent. Also, I've allowed the configurator to do all the file generation because I am prone to fat-fingering entries. Thanks! The dmcfg file needs to contain all the different FV letterbugs for each workstation to use. One part of that configurator is where you assign display names to each workstation, or you can just manually edit the dmcfg file. A reboot of the two WPs I have thus modified results in the loss of availability of an FV license on each. The FoxView Usage Summary shows the DNAME but it is not selectable. The reason listed is "No License," which is inaccurate. Rolling those two files back to the previous versions frees the FV back up for use, but the button is again restricted. Maybe I haven't used the configurator in long enough that I don't remember some setting. A search through B0193RV rev E uncovers plenty of discussion about licenses w.r.t. "you can't create more DMs or AMs than you have licenses," but nothing about "if you do this wrong you will restrict the use of # licenses." Elbowing around the configurator's interface hasn't provided any clues either. We are running IA 7.1.5/FV 9.0.4 Any suggestions would be appreciated.
