It looks like it might be a case of depleted windows handles.
You can see the total windows handle count in the task manager performance tab.
You can also see the per-process handle count if you enable the handle column
in the process tab.

If the handle count is unusually high (around 16 million), then this could be
the problem.

Check-out this blog about pushing windows limits:

Subject: [foxboro] Aim Historian coughing up a hair ball

Three times in the last couple of months, one instance of our Aim Historian
has stopped. These stoppages have come at different times, but all during
the early hours of the morning when there is no local activity on the server
and limited remote access activity.

The historian error log has this message:

Historian "histname" MapViewOfFile r21090.fdb errno = 1450 insufficient
system resources exist to complete the requested service.

The server has plenty of disk space and free memory and there are no alarms
in any of the Windows event logs that correspond with the time stamp of the
historian errors.

Anyone else had a problem like this?

Thanks,

Russ
