Dear list, Situation: Version 8.2 system with terminal server, some CP270's, ATS and AW70 with OPC server software (german I/Aconnect, very nice!). The terminal server is the host for a number of Industrial field PC's in the compressor building. We do NOT want to install the OPC server on the terminal server. For this reason we have the AW70 with the I/A_connect OPC server installed. This seems to work very well. The initial idea was to also install the OPC client software on the AW70 but we did not realise the fact that this OPC client software is not a native windows application and the configuration tools for it ALSO need to run under Exceed !!! We were able to install the client software on the AW70 but when starting the application we soon discovered that the Foxboro pre-installed Exceed was not co-operating! There seem to be 2 paths on the AW70 which holds exceed dll's and executables and although the path env var. contains the hummingbird\exceed . etc. path it looks like the client wants to execute (in this case) the localcon.exe from the apps32 directory ?! Question: does the above mentioned set-up have any change of success (installing a 3th party application which also needs exceed on a AW70) ?? If so, could somebody knowledgeable give me some tips (Ron, I hope you read this!). Installing the client application onto a non-I/A PC, with exceed 9.0 installed (needed only for the OPC client) and connecting to the AW70 OPC server works o.k. So we do have this option as an alternative but I would not like to give up on the AW-only solution just yet! The MTBF of the complete set-up will be less with 2 PC's in 'series'. The reason we use the (german) I/A_connect OPC server software is because this supports SSC. Indeed, this seems to work very nice! Kind regards and thanks in advance for any advise, (I do not agree with the statement: free advise is worth what you paid for it. I have seen problems solved on this list for which we pay a substantial yearly fee. I will also add that I feel our maintenance contract is really worth the money (as a late response to an earlier posting)). Patrick Martens Process Automation Specialist Total Raff. Ned.
