I saw this aircraft first hand while Jonathan was working on it...and I have
run into the plane and owner during flights over to Texas a few times.
Jonathan...you saved at least one life, if not more by your attention to detail
and your awesome borescope work. Yes, aging aircraft are an issue, but you did
a great job identifying the problem - and resolving it.

Subject: [flytaos] Impportance of actually doing the ANNUAL inspection.
Wanted to share with all my recent experience performing an annual inspection
on an F model V-Tail Beech.
On this aircraft the left stabilizer main spar was completely severed. Only two
things holding it together was the aft spar and the AD cuff on the lower
leading edge. The AD cuff created a pinch point and when the stabilizer was
trying to rip itself from the airframe this pinch point kept it in "relative"
place.
Aging aircraft is no joke everybody. The FAA harps on it left and right. And as
many of you all know after I performed your inspection for you after for years
you have been taking it "someplace else", well, you all know what the deal is
now.
This aircraft had accumulated 51 hours flight time since its last annual
inspection. By my account this spar was in a mode of failure for at least two
to four years based on service use which means it was missed for at least two
years. When it fully failed is anybodies guess but based on wear from cracked
edges rubbing I would place the hours at between 50 and 100.
Gives new meaning to "Dancing with the Devil"...
