Almost always when this happens the account has been cloned not hacked.
Someone took his photo, and any public details and created a duplicate account.
They then harvest his friend list and send out friend requests. A lot of
people may not realize they are already friends with say Walter, and accept the
friend request. What happens next is the scammer often starts a conversation
with the friend and eventually asks for money, or tries to sell them something.
The best way to protect yourself is to set your friend list to private, since
that is what the scammers are after.
It never hurts to change your password, but it’s unlikely that anything Walter
has posted that isn’t set to public was compromised. FYI. Even If you set
your friend list to private, you can still see if you have mutual friends with
someone.
