The rice cake soup looks yummy and I hope it brings you much luck!
Freezing rain is the worst. Staying inside is the best idea. Happy NeW Year,
Steve and Oki!

First of all, Happy New Year everyone.
We keep things pretty low key here but we did have one traditional food item
today. It is the custom in Korea to have "ricecake" soup on New Years Day to
bring good luck in the coming year. So, we too had our special "soup of the
day" today.

This years version got a bit embellished with other things because of the
minimal supply of ricecake on-hand. In the above photo the ricecake are the
bright white cylinders where the pale white squares is tofu. The dark brown
pieces are either a little meat or dumplings made from black beans. The yellow,
of course, is egg. Don't need to tell you it was quite tasty.
The weather here is absolutely terrible. Freezing rain making any walking or
driving quite risky. Fortunately we don't have to go out for any reason. It's
going to be a looong winter. As nasty as it is outside, there is some beauty.
Below is a picture of ice accumulation one of our trees. Not a great picture,
but you can get the idea.

Stay safe,
