Ditto on the dichotomy. I don't know what Powell is thinking, or if he is. I
think baby-tyler and his wife are both in that 2 million. TP quit his manager
job because he thought he could make as much money with the band (band has a
wedding gig in Cabo, Mexico in January ... somebody has some bucks to get a 13
member band there for a week). Marissa was a big shot (in charge of their
education programs) at butterfly pavillion and now has a p/t teaching job at
a p-K school. I think the psychology is she was missing too much of the new
baby excitement with TP being mostly mister mom.
Mike is the only grandchild on Marissa's side. Her 2 older sisters seem
unlikely to produce any. liz seems confused about her gender .. in and out of
being gay. Zan (architect) is married to her work, although currently out of
work. Zan bought a house next to theirs and is their #1 baby sitter. Liz gave
up her job as photographer for air force academy to go to UAE for a couple
years to teach photography to a princess. Walter (their dad) was Trump's
deputy sec of commerce, but was not allowed to stay on even though he is a Dem,
His boss, Ross was at odds with Trump so I thought one day we would wake up
and Walt would be Sec. Now he the lead person for an entity in charge of
standardizing weights and measures (not government) with office at Colorado
School of Mines, (Colorado's truly engineering school). I ask when I see Walt,
but it does not sound like he ever even met Trump. I watched Ross closely once
when he was on TV for an extended time ... it was all macro-economics. Walt is
phd in chemistry , with CEO and other relevant experience. Mike has a
birthday (#3) in a week ... party time ... as if it's not always party time
here.. DP

I'm still having trouble getting my hands around this dichotomy. How are there
2 million not in the labor force when there is such an ongoing worker shortage?

DP The Federal Reserve will stay on its current path of interest rate hikes
well into next year, unless a recession intervenes. Jerome Powell, the Fed
chairman, has reiterated his commitment to bringing down inflation, saying it’s
less risky to raise rates for too long than to start easing too early. The Fed
wants the economy to slow, so supply can catch up with demand, allowing price
pressures to ease. While housing is already slowing sharply, Powell is
particularly concerned with the labor market and ongoing worker shortages,
which are pushing up wages. Even when adjusting for an aging population, there
are still roughly 2 million Americans who should be in the labor force but
