Subject: Masks again
Back in the year of 1955, I made a trip to the "far east," courtesy of the
US Navy. We traveled to such exotic places a Sasebo, Nagasaki, Fukuoka, Japan;
Hong Kong, Formosa, and Okinawa. We received a short briefing on arrival with
such information as the VD rate, the fact that Japan was a "sovereign nation"
(any crime would be tried by Japanese court), and don't eat anything that does
not grow above the ground, and a few other things that I can't remember. Also
it was pointed out that occasionally we might see a Japanese person wearing a
surgical mask. It was a tradition in Asia to wear a mask if the person had a
cold or a sniffle or a cough. When our current Pandemic broke out, there were
many news clips from Asian countries showing lots of people wearing masks.
Could it be that someone high up in our government or advisory group decided
that wearing masks would be a preventive for the virus which happens to be too
small to be stopped by a mask? Just wondering. Don't forget to be awesome!
