Do the math. How much energy is incident to a car roof/time and how much does
it use/time in operation. Input cannot keep up with output ... and even if by
some magic that could happen we'd have pile of stalled cars in tunnels and at
dusk.
Same issue with solar airplanes. The solar airplanes we have today are
essentially gliders. All weight removed and no real payload. I flew a glider
one time. The trick is to find an updraft and let it take you higher. I
accidentally found one and circled and circled until the instructor realized
we'd be hours getting back and said, "that's enough." Glider skills is how
Sully Sullenberger (a Colorado guy) saved all of those people (lucky for all
those people, they drew the right pilot.) on the Hudson River ... tail down;
nose up; wings perfectly balanced. DP

Yeah, but they're just getting started, remember how automobiles started to be
produced? This is just the beginning. And what about that crack about using
energy without producing any. When was the last time you turned on the lights
and ran around the house with a generator hooked up to you? Whatever.... Mike

Solar panels on the roof are a gimmick for now. If you park in the sun all day,
you may be able to add 3-5 miles to your range. However, the panels add weight
which decreases range, more than off-setting what you might gain. It also adds
to the cost of the car. Not worth it until technology improves.

I've been thinking about electric vehicles lately, I don't know why. I came up
with an idea to make recharging the battery. It's simple. Just put solar panels
on top of them. That won't work on convertibles, but how many of them are
there. Just remember, you heard it here first, from me. Mike
