There were so many rumours and speculations being bantered about, but only the
witnesses, that I was assigned to, have the details. Not one of them knew or
stated if he was texting or not. The closest thing, or conversation that I am
aware of, was when I was with 4 of the witnesses and was hugging my friend, who
was first on the scene and had just given CPR went like this.....
The young man had been taken out of the sheriff's car and I said
"that poor guy needs someone with him, but I don't think I can go over to him.
I can only hope for his sake that it was something mechanical or medical and
that he wasn't doing something silly like texting. I feel so sorry for him,
his whole life just changed in a heartbeat."
That is the conversation, pretty much verbatim! So if someone wants to turn it
around and post it on some Facebook page.... I can't do anything about that.
It was one of the most difficult situations I've been involved in. I know in
my heart I did everything I could. This is the last I have to say on someone
posting 'Fake News'

Just heard from a friend who spoke directly with one of the responders on the
scene that he was texting.
Just wanted to correct myself that it was a crisis team member that confirmed
he was texting and driving. Not a first responders opinion.

Crisis members shouldn't be saying anything to anyone about a law enforcement
issuer. That is not why they are there. A no no.
