Hello Guys, we are now at the spring equinox part of the year, equal amounts
of daylight and darkness.
But heading in the right direction for longer evenings with daylight.
Clocks will spring forward next weekend.
Our meeting kicked off today with a discussion and lots of information from
Cearbhall regarding Navi Lens.
Navi Lens uses codes rather like those QR codes which we all know from our
digital certificates.
They work like cutting squares of paper with the code on it, send from the
Navi LENS developers.
One can create a journey and placing the paper in the right locations, one
can walk and using their phone can discover where they are by placing and
holding the camera on the phone and scanning the codes.
Also one can label jars of relish, ie marmalade, jams and after getting the
Navi code can place the paper on the jars to identify them later.
It could be wonderful in Tube stations on the London underground or on the
Irish railway system.
Most people complained that one has to take out the phone camera, and then
look for the paper with the type on it to get it to work.
This could be problematic when travelling in a carriage with other people.
It was discovered by another person that these Navi Lens codes are also on
Kellog cereal packs.
So if somebody wanted to find a cereal with raisons in them, one could use
the codes to get the correct cereal quickley from the packed supermarket
shelves.
The type used on your Navi slips of paper should be clearly
visible and depending on the distance from the person using them would be the
size of the type.
At this juncture Martin introduced us to his great gadget, called Eyemate.
This is a small machine which one can use to identify objects, like coffee
jars tea pack cartons, and tinned fruit and so on.
Clair wanted to know if BE My Eyes, can be used when abroad.
Declan said indeed it could be used when in another country.
Martin said that his desk top pc just suddenly shut down, and the same thing
happened at the exact same time last week.
Declan told him to check all his connections to make sure that one did not
suddenly come loose.
Strange things indeed. Poltergeist !!
Tom then complained that the batteries in his Orbit Reader,did not last
anytime.
Cearbhall said that his batteries lasted for ages, but he did not use it as
much as Tom uses his reader.
Tom has an engineer friend who is going to examine the batteries and test
them.
There is a new Orbit Reader with sound, its basically a Braille note taker
with sound.
Rather like voice over on the iPhone.
