John, Gerry and others have identified the solution to this problem.
I would just like to add that the office has a choice of two formats, not
just Plain text. They can set the format of the emails as either HTML or
Plain Text to avoid this problem. It is caused by using the old, and now
little used, format of RTF, meaning rich text format.
