I did what you suggested and I reported it to the Labs people. It baffled me to
tell me something went wrong then getting an email to confirm my email address.
I honestly wouldn't want the task of talking someone through it that wasn't
technically minded.

grant permissions first. It definitely doesn’t appear as a check box. After
I did this step I still couldn’t sign up. I kept getting that error message.
I ended up registering one of my other email addresses. It’s definitely not
easy to register. I won’t try to even explain here on how I did it.
