Nokia phones return to Irish market
Nokia phones are to return to Ireland again from next month.
The new owner of the brand, HMD Global, is to release the Nokia 3, 5 and 6
smartphones as well as the reinvigorated Nokia 3310.
The devices were unveiled at Mobile World Congress at the start of the year and
have since been released in certain markets around the world.
However, stock restrictions meant the phones are only coming to Ireland and the
UK now.
The three smartphones are targeted at the low-to mid tier of the market, while
the 3310 will be aimed at those needing a second or throwaway phone, older
people, or younger children whose parents donât want them to have full
smartphone access.
The Nokia 6 has a 5.5 inch full HD screen with an aluminium body, dual speakers
and is powered by the Snapdragon 430 processor.
This device will be available for purchase in Ireland from August 2nd, costing
â¬249.
The slightly smaller Nokia 5 has an IPS HD display, an 8MP selfie camera and is
also powered by the same chip as the Nokia 6.
It will cost â¬209 and will be available here from August 16th.
The Nokia 3 has a 5 inch IPS display and 8MP wide aperture cameras front and
back.
It will go on sale on August 2nd priced at â¬149.
All three smartphones will run on the Google Android operating system, with no
modifications.
The 3310, the original of which was once among the most popular phones ever
made, has many of the same features as the first version.
Its battery has 22 hours of talk time and will last a month on standby. The new
model also has the old favourite 3310 game, Snake.
It will sell for â¬59 and will be available from August 2nd from Vodafone, Eir
and Carphone Warehouse.
HMD Global is a Finish based company which designs and markets a range of
devices under the Nokia brand.
It was only set up late last year.
