Marion brought up this issue today at the FB-Exchange club in Dublin.
BorrowBox lets you read eBooks on screen if your sight is sufficient to let
you do so. You can also read the text using VoiceOver and read the book as
you would any text file on the iPhone. However, BorrowBox has a special
voicing tool that enables you to set your own preferred voice for the book
without affecting VoiceOver.
Here's how to get at this feature:
1. Double tap on the eBook in My Library;
2. On the next screen, swipe right to the second line below the book
title and look for the words "Toggle Reading"
3. Double tap on "Toggle Reading" and the special voice will start
reading the text of eBook;
4. To stop the reading, just double tap on "Toggle Reading" again;
5. If you would like to change the reader voice, swipe right another
two lines to "Settings" and double tap to open this option;
This opens a dialog where you can adjust the pitch, speed and language of
the voice. There is a large range of voices here and you can experiment to
see which you would like.
I found that the voice does not change immediately. You may need to close
settings and restart the book for the new settings to take effect . This is
a bit of a pain and I hope I am mistaken but I can only describe what I have
found!
I would like to invite all our members to experiment with eBook reading to
see what options work best and which voices they prefer.
Anyway, Marion, I hope this permits you to enjoy reading your eBooks.
By the way, I was able to load and unload Voiceover while the reading voice
was speaking and Voiceover did not interrupt the reading voice.
